Spooky Spirulina and Activated Charcoal Popcorn

There is so much emphasis on candy on Halloween. Why not still treat our kiddies ( or ourselves) with some ghoulish fun with… Activated Charcoal and Spirulina Popcorn! I know, Who would of thought?! My kid and her friends loved it and I quickly had to make more, as it was gone before I knew it! Warning-your mouth will turn black when eating the activated charcoal popcorn. Which is fun for the kiddies! I love it because activated Charcoal actually is ah-mazing for dental health and whitening teeth!

Choose Organic Non-GMO Popcorn

Did you know that much of the Corn made in Canada ( up to 90%) is Genetically Modified and highly sprayed? Using non-gmo organic popcorn is the best choice. Popcorn is rich in iron, protein, vitamin B 1, vitamin B 2 and Niacin. It contains calcium and phosphorous that is important for strong bones in the body. It is high in antioxidants and very low in calories ( not that calories matter-It’s about quality not quantity). Organic popcorn does not have any pesticide or toxic residues that are found in popcorn that is conventional. So choose organic!

What is Spirulina?

Spirulina is a green superfood that has one of the highest concentration of chlorophyll of any food known. Chlorophyll has numerous health benefits; it’s well-known for its ability to break down and eliminate toxins and heavy metals such as DDT, PCBs, mercury, cadmium, and lead.Spirulina has also been shown to be beneficial for GI problems, fighting infections and helping the body assimilate calcium and balance other trace minerals. Spirulina helps support a healthy pH balance in your body.  The alkaline properties of Spirulina are amazing.
It’s a great plant based protein source, has strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, helps boost the immune system, inhibits the power of many viruses, diminishes allergies. What’s not to like about it?


What is Activated Charcoal?

Activated charcoal is a potent natural treatment used to trap toxins and chemicals in the body, allowing them to be flushed out so the body doesn’t reabsorb them. It’s made from a variety of sources, but when used for natural healing.

In addition, it’s used to  improve dental health, whiten teeth, reduce bloating and gas, lower cholesterol, treat drug overdoses, treat bile flow problems safely during pregnacy and even prevent hangovers.

So, how does activated charcoal work?

Activated charcoal works by trapping toxins and chemicals in its millions of tiny pores.The porous surface of activated charcoal has a negative electric charge that causes positive charged toxins and gas to bond with it.  It’s important to note that activated charcoal is not charcoal used in your barbecue! Barbecue charcoal is loaded with toxins and chemicals, and should never be consumed. LOL to the people who thought I was talking about this!

Super Easy and Super Healthy Spirulina and Activated Charcoal Popcorn Recipe


Organic Popcorn ( already popped or popped at home)
Powdered Spirulina ( I like Giddy Yoyos)
Powdered Activated Charcoal
Pink Himilayan Sea Salt ( only add if making at home and store bought brand does not contain it)

The recipe itself is easy, pop the corn, or use already popped organic corn add a dash of sea salt ( only if you are popping yourself)  and sprinkle some spirulina or charcoal and mix it up so that most pieces of popcorn have some green or black on them. That’s it! It’s super easy, fun, spooky looking and healthy as hell!

**I highly recommend popping your own corn in a pan or buying non gmo organic already popped corn. I love Neil brothers Himalayan popcorn, in this case you don’t need to add salt as it’s already added.  Microwave popcorn bags contain toxins, and microwaves are not a very healthy way of cooking due to intense radiation and it basically kills all the nutrients in your food.
